The 41st annual Tokyo Motor Show opens to the public today. There are some mixed feelings about this event. On the one hand, it was a little sad to see that the number of participants in the show this year was lower than ever before. On the other hand, it was really neat to see the eco-friendly, forward-thinking technology and design that was exhibited by those manufacturers who did opt to participate in the event.

Toyota is a good example of a company that showed off some neat cars. They displayed the first Toyota model vehicle that is powered by Lithium Ion batteries. The company also used the event to premier two brand new vehicles made with Toyota genuine parts: the FT-86 Concept which is a lightweight four-seater sports car and the FT-EVII Concept which is a small electric vehicle for urban drivers. These are no boring Toyota Corolla Parts that we’re looking at; they’re cutting edge green technology efforts by the company.

The event itself was focused around this green theme. It wasn’t just about being green, though. It was about being green while still having a fun car to drive. The participants that did show at the event are all making fun designs that keep the earth in mind. The show runs through November 4th.

Well, I would like to think so. I recently made one big mistake and my husband had a big laugh out of it. I suppose I deserved it, but I felt a little silly when it happened.

You see, he was working on his Mustang in the garage and he needed some extra parts, so he asked me if I could get them for him. Being the loving wife that I am, I agreed and he gave me a list of the Ford parts he needed and sent me out to buy them.

Instead of going to a Ford dealer, I went to a Mitsubishi dealer instead.

Whoops!

Anyway, when I returned home with the parts I bought he opened the bag to find the wrong stuff. He wasn’t mad, but rather he rolled his eyes at me.

How was I supposed to know that I was supposed to get Ford parts? He didn’t write that on the list.

Needless to say, I have learned my lesson and I pay more attention when I go out shopping for car parts now.

There is no denying Japan’s automakers took some extreme measures at the start of the year. As sales slumped around the world, nothing was safe from cost cutting. Mitsubishi Motors apologized before one press conference for not providing water as an emergency cost saving measure. The chief engineer of a new Lexus shared a car with two colleagues rather than take the bullet train from Toyota City to Tokyo, even though it took four hours versus 90 minutes on the train, to save $300 in train fares. More important: the likes of Toyota, Honda and Nissan slashed production at the start of the year–in some months trimming output 65% from a year earlier–as they battled to reduce inventories.

This week’s earnings results suggest the tough steps are paying off. After racking up huge losses in the first three months of the year, Honda, Nissan, and Mazda have all posted better than expected results for the April-June period. Honda, one of only three Japanese carmakers, to make an annual profit in the financial year that ended on March 31, surprised analysts yesterday with a small profit. Today’s its stock rose 8%. Nissan, which posted a smaller than expected loss a couple of hours after Honda’s results, surged 10%. Mazda’s better-than-hoped $264 million loss also warrants a mention given that the Hiroshima-based carmaker exports about 85% of the vehicles it makes in Japan. That makes it especially vulnerable to the strong yen, which surged against other currencies last fall and remains at painful levels for exporters.

For all that, the recent recovery in confidence–and share prices–could prove fragile. One question mark is what will happen to auto sales once government incentive schemes come to an end. “Cash for clunkers” and tax breaks for eco-friendly cars are one reason for better-than-forecast results. In China, government measures, including boosting sales of cars with engines sizes of 1.6 liters or smaller, continue to stoke sales. In Japan, subsidies for eco-friendly vehicles, such as the Honda Insight and Toyota Prius, have propelled hybrids to the top of the sales rankings for the first time. But what happens when the government help runs out?

Then there’s the Toyota factor. The company, the world’s largest automaker, doesn’t reveal its quarterly results until August 4. Given its huge importance to the Japanese auto industry, if its numbers disappoint, the recent improvements in sentiment could quickly go into reverse.

http://The controversial and much debated “Cash For Clunkers” bill is having the desired effect of boosting car sales, according to analysts and a few auto executives.

Edmunds.com, the auto buying site, predicts that sales in July will be up 10% from June despite the fact that the program was only in effect the last week of the month. J.D. Power and Associates also predicts a bump, as well, predicting sales going from an annual selling rate of 9.7 million in June to an annualized rate of 10 million.

But executives at two automakers who asked not to be identified said their internal tracking shows a bigger bump from “Clunkers” putting the selling rate in July at closer to 11 million. That would still be a decline from the 12.5 million selling rate last July, but a healthy boost from the doldrums of the first half of the year, which saw the industry selling at an annualize rate of 9.6 million.

Automakers got a jump on attracting consumers to the program even before the government began accepting applications for each rebate. Hyundai dealers, for example, for about two weeks had been giving customers the government rebate they qualified for—advancing the money–and then put through the transaction to the Feds starting July 24. Other automakers did likewise.

J.D. Power’s Gary Dilts said that sales from “Clunkers” may under-deliver on expectations because of confusion on the part of consumers about what cars qualify for the program. “However, there is potential for increased sales in the short term as a result of select OEMs boosting incentives to match the program,” said Dilts.

Congress only authorized $1 billion to fund the program which grants consumers up to $4,500 for older vehicles not worth much money if they trade them in to buy new vehicles. Legislators are expected to consider additional funding in the Fall, so the performance of the first phase of the program is being closely watched.

The “Clunkers” bill has cut both ways this years on auto sales. Since it was first mentioned by President Obama last Spring, automakers believe it has kept some people out of the market to buy a new vehicle until they knew what the specifics of the bill would be. Now that it’s out, some percentage of sales in July and August are bound to be vehicle buyers who would have bought a new set of wheels in the last three or four months anyway, but waited. Edmunds.com says that the $1 billion program will actually only add 50,000 new vehicle sales that might not have materialized if the Clunkers program wasn’t enacted.

The Recession and dramatic falloff in auto sales drove both General Motors and Chrysler into Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, and has created unprecedented operating losses at Toyota. It also helped to drive Porsche SE into the arms of Volkswagen AG this month.

The success of Clunkers to boost annual sales is critical to Detroit automakers. GM and Chrysler have restructured under bankruptcy to break even when the industry is at a 10 million selling rate. So, those companies need a rebound to get into the black. Ford has been hammering away at its costs to lower its break-even point. If sales over-deliver on forecasts next year—say, going to 13 million up from the 10 million or so we expect this year on the whole—the Detroit automakers stand to make a lot of profit they haven’t seen in years.

Before the advent of specialized auto detailing steam machines, individuals as well as car wash businesses had to choose between two not-so-good cleaning solutions – dry steam cleaners and traditional pressure washers. Let us take a look at why these two options are not the best auto detailing solutions.

The main issue with dry steam cleaners is that they are not powerful enough to remove hardened dirt and grime on the vehicle’s surface. This lack of cleaning power is attributed to low pressure levels of up to 100 PSI, as well as low content of moisture (only about 5%) in vaporized steam. This requires users to constantly keep wipe the vehicle surface. This process poses a risk of scratches on the surface.

Now let us move on to the drawbacks of traditional pressure washers used in auto detailing. The main issue with these pressure cleaning machines is that they have a high flow, ranging from 2-7 GPM. This results in wastage of water and increased possibility of EPA fines. To correct this, auto detailing agencies are often forced to set up water capture systems. Comparatively, the most significant damage caused by conventional pressure washers is that the high flow rates and pressure levels can actually damage a car’s painted exterior.

So, is there an effective auto detailing solution that does not have such drawbacks and yet offers thorough results? The answer is yes – steam car wash systems. These machines are essential pressure washers specifically designed for auto detailers. Such advanced car washing machines available from top suppliers combine a low flow rate of 0.5 GPM, moderate pressure levels and high temperature to generate exceptional cleaning power that cleans vehicle surfaces without causing damage.

When it comes to the question of pressure, these mobile auto detailing systems feature lower pressure levels than conventional pressure washers yet higher levels than steam cleaners. This means you get the right auto detailing pressure levels of about 1000-1500 PSI to remove dirt and prevent damage to your car. When this pressure level is coupled with the power of super-heated steam of up to 300ºF, you get the perfect auto detailing machine to blast away dirt, mud, oil, grease, soil, bugs, tree sap, tar and lots of other deposits that mar the appearance of your vehicle. What’s more, you can even use this steam pressure washing equipment to melt ice and snow during the chilly winter months.

Compared to traditional pressure washing machines, advanced auto detailing steam cleaners have lower flow rates of about 0.5 GPM – a flow rate that is effective for cleaning yet not high enough to cause damage to the vehicle surface. The machines can be safely used on almost all vehicle surfaces like exteriors, glass, wheels and engines. Most importantly, these auto detailing systems are able to maintain constant temperature and pressure levels even during long periods of operation.

Daimer industries provide latest steam car wash, portable car wash & mobile car wash equipment for auto detailing industry with best technologies and great methods to rinse the car with steam cleaner or a steam pressure washer to make it spotless and looking like a brand new one.

Appealing and well-maintained car interiors attract everyone. Getting such a look and feel could be a daunting task. However, thanks to the manufacturers of custom seat covers, having appealing environment inside your car has become effective, affordable and hassle-free. Are you keen to get personalized atmosphere inside your car? Getting Velour seat covers can make your task an effortless one.

There are varieties of seat covers available. While the universal seat covers are cheap, these cannot provide desired look, comfort or protection to your original upholstery. The loosely fit accessories cannot sustain harms caused by hazards. That’s when the need of custom seat covers arises.

Custom-fit seat covers are especially tailored auto accessories. Prepared keeping the specifications of your seats in mind, the custom-made auto accessories provide perfect covering for your original upholstery.

One of the issues that concern motorcycle riders and manufacturers alike is the safety of riding it. Since two-wheeled vehicles are less stable than those with three or more wheels, safety becomes a top priority because of this. But there are some ways to keep riders safe when riding motorcycles. Below are some of them.

1. Wearing protective gear : this is one of the most basic ways by which riders can protect themselves while riding their motorcycles. Protective gear includes a crash helmet, motorcycle clothing, gloves and boots. These accessories ensure that the impact of a crash is lessened. Bright colored clothing is also advised so that riders will be easily visible to drivers of other vehicles.

2. Checking the bike before riding : accidents can be prevented by making sure that every component of the motorcycle works well. This is especially the case with the brakes and the lights. So before taking the bike for a ride, they should first be checked.

3. Perform periodic maintenance : to ensure that the bike is in tip-top condition, owners should bring it to a certified mechanic to be inspected. Motorcycles generally need to be maintained more often than cars, so a regular schedule of trips to the mechanic should be made and followed by owners.

4. Riding safely : some motorcycle-riding accidents are caused by incompetent riders. Observing traffic safety rules like using signals should therefore be done. By doing this, not only accidents are prevented but also the hefty fines that come with traffic violations. One of the roots of the motorcycle’s popularity is its ability to cater to a wide variety of consumers. Proof of this is the different subcultures among motorcycle fans and owners. Below are some of them.

Motorcycle Subcultures : One of the roots of the motorcycle’s popularity is its ability to cater to a wide variety of consumers. Proof of this is the different subcultures among motorcycle fans and owners. Below are some of them.

a. One percenters : are several motorcycling groups that are famous for their law-breaking activities. Their name is in reference to the American Motorcyclist Association’s statement that the troublemakers only comprise one percent of the motorcycling population. Some of the notorious groups are the Pagans, Hells Angels, Outlaws MC and the Bandidos. Known as the ‘Big Four’, they are labeled by North American intelligence agencies as Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs.

b. Mods : short for modernists, this is a subculture that originated in London, England. It became popular in the 1950s towards the middle of the 1960s. One thing that is associated with this group is their penchant for riding motor scooters, especially the Vespa and the Lambrette which are both Italian brands.

c. Extreme sports : the thing associated with this group is their love for adventure. The subgroups that fall under this are the motocross riders, drag racers, and the stunt and trick enthusiasts.

d. Groups according to brand : then there are groups that prefer a particular brand of motorcycle. They typically go out on weekends or on special events and hold exhibits of their bikes.

e. Groups by model : this is a more specific group which prefers a particular make of a motorcycle made by a particular brand. There are other biker subcultures all around the globe by the ones mentioned above are by far the most popular.

General Motors made some big headlines this morning with word that its Chevrolet Volt electric car will get 230 miles per gallon in the city. That’s an impressive feat to be sure. It will certainly leap frog any car on the market except for all-electric cars like the Nissan Leaf or the Tesla Roadster when the Volt goes on sale late next year. But the Volt has an advantage for some drivers because its gasoline engine keeps recharging the battery, so drivers can drive far longer than the Leaf’s 100 miles. In auto industry parlance, the Volt is an extended-range electric vehicle.

But there is one potential quandary for the government, GM, and any other producer of EVs. The fuel economy and range ratings can vary greatly depending on how people drive them, and far more so than the difference you get by driving conventional gasoline-powered cars with a lead foot. EVs recharge the battery when braking, so the range (and in Volt’s case mileage) will be much better in the city. On the highway, drivers will use more electricity and charge less. An electric car can get half its range in pure highway driving than it might in the city.

So consumers may start griping if they don’t get the published range or fuel economy numbers. They’ll complain not only to the manufacturer but to the government. So right now the feds are studying hard to figure out how people will drive these cars and what rating they should put on them. GM insiders say the Volt could easily get less than 100 mpg on the highway, maybe even as low 50 mpg if it’s driven hard. But they’re thinking that the car will get a combined rating for city and highway mileage of 124 mpg. That’s still mighty impressive. This issue isn’t about technology. It will be about how the government decides to rate the cars and how the manufacturers will communicate the message. Consumers, too, will have to be more open-minded and realistic about their expectations.

A Hybrid car is one that is green and clean, hence not only protecting the environment but also your wallet by efficient fuel consumption. Hybrid cars actually combine two kinds of energy components for operation. One is petrol and the other electricity, hence making the vehicle such that it is hyperactive low emission, and quiet as well as cheap to run.

The first and foremost advantage of a hybrid car is associated with the protection of the environment, as hybrid cars have very low emissions and hence not having the greenhouse effect. The cost of fuel is less, and the resale value of hybrid cars is very good, hence making the car financially very feasible.

There are two main types coming in hybrid cars. One is the Parallel and the other Series. In the parallel hybrid, the petrol and electric motor of the car have the ability to power the transmission at the same time. However, in series hybrid, the petrol engine of the car doesn’t directly power the transmission. Instead, there is the generator that charges the batteries or the electric motor, which actually perform the transmission.

There are cars that are Full hybrid and there are Assist hybrids as well. The former ones can run on the engine alone and can run on the batteries or both, whereas, assist hybrids are the ones that possess a small gasoline engine that provides them with the primary power. Some of the cars made by Honda and Toyota are the best known among hybrids.

There are certain features in a hybrid vehicle that are especially built and help in better performance of the car, so that it can be fuel-efficient. In times like these when fuel costs are high, hybrid cars can be very useful. They may be a little expensive as compared to the non-hybrid ones, but they are worth it, as they save a lot on fuel as well as environment.

Hybrid cars have the ability to drive up to sixty miles per gallon, as opposed to the normal vehicle that drives twenty two to twenty eight miles a gallon. Slow and smooth acceleration of a hybrid car can help you save the gas. There are ways of handling a hybrid car that can actually help you in increasing the fuel efficiency of the vehicle.

The main advantage of a hybrid car is that it uses a lot less fuel to start with and when there is less fuel, there would ultimately be lesser emissions, hence protecting the environment from the ever-increasing pollution, as individual effort becomes collective effort for the betterment of the Earth.

Hybrid cars started in 1999. It was when Honda introduced its first hybrid car. With more awareness about the environment with the passage of time, the demand for the hybrids has been increasing over the passage of years. People who want to save the environment as well as costs are very likely to buy hybrid cars.

Tail lights attract people by their brilliant looks. At the same time they warn people to keep a safe distance from them. Two opposite reactions are expected from the tail lights, and they succeed in doing so. They are located outside the body of a car where they attract attention. Designers exploit this situation to use tail lights in improving the looks of a car. They are no longer two small lights placed at two ends at the rear. There are creatively designed larger tail lights that are now available. Wrap around tail lights have been designed which are wider and curve along from the back to the side of the car. They stand out and impress the onlookers.

It has to be kept in view that primarily tail lights are a safety feature. Even when the visibility is not good they warn the driver of a car of the car moving ahead of him or her. Tail lights can also indicate to him or her whether that car would be turning left or right, or is applying brakes. A forewarning of such movements enables the driver who follows to maneuver his car in a safe way. Possibility of accidents or collisions is reduced. Tail lights are an important aid in ensuring a smooth accident free flow of traffic.

People do appreciate the performance and safety aspects of a car, but they also care as to how it looks. People tend to judge other people by the looks of their car as well. Owners of the car, therefore, not to be found wanting in this regard try to enhance looks of their car by acquiring attractive accessories and visible parts. Tail lights are one such item. Sometimes the old tail lights are replaced by the new ones, such as Euro tail lights, only to make the car look better.

Tail lights thus admirably perform the dual function of improving safety and improving the looks of a car. Tail lights are available in the market in various shapes, sizes, and designs. Choosing them has been made easy thanks to the internet. You can choose them quickly and easily from the comfort of your home. You can know more about the latest tail lights at www.ilovebodykits.com.
